5 Things An Astrologer Looks for in Relationship Compatibility

When it comes to relationship compatibility, we have lots of fun here on the Astromatcha site with our sun sign compatibility guides and articles. To fully understand your relationship compatibility, you’ll need a detailed compatibility report which looks at both of your whole birth charts. We offer these kind of reports here

Now here are five major things an astrologer will look for when preparing a chart compatibility report.

Good Relationship Comaptibility can lead you to love
One key to finding love is good Relationship Compatibility

1 – Ascendant Signs and Ascendant Links

If someone had to guess “what sign” you are, they are much more likely to correctly guess your ascendant sign than your Sun sign.

This happens because your ascendant sign is the face you present to the world, representing your automatic, normal, default way of dealing with life.

For this reason, the ascendant sign is vital in chart compatibility, and an astrologer will be very keen to find out whether the two ascendant signs are complementary or not, and what kind of links there are between the two ascendant sign positions.

2 – Sun and Moon Signs, Houses and Aspects

This is where the sun sign comes in, but it’s not nearly as important as you might think. the moon sign is just as important in love.

For a solid astrological compatibility match, the astrologer will look at the placements of both suns and moons. Do the sign energies gel well, or is there conflict?

What houses are the respective suns and moons in? This is important because it shows where each partner is concentrating their sense of self and their emotional energies; if both are focused on their career, for instance, that doesn’t necessarily bode well for family life.

The aspects, or links, between each partner’s sun and moon are vital for chart compatibility in showing how well these important energies are integrated between the couple.

3 – Venus and Mars Links

Venus, the planet of love and romance, and Mars, the planet of passion and drive, are both vitally important in chart compatibility. Again, the astrologer will check the sign and house positions of these planets in both birth charts, and will look for particular angles and aspects between the planets and across the charts.

A certain amount of tension is healthy for a relationship, and sometimes vital for sexual magnetism, so here the skill of the astrologer is critical – it’s way too easy to big up a relationship which only has harmonious links, but which in real life could turn out to be rather boring, and far too simplistic to cast doom on a partnership with difficult aspects, which in real life could in fact be quite intoxicating.

To determine the full extent of the astrological compatibility match, every other planet must also be considered in both charts, because all of them have their part to play.

We look to Uranus, for instance, to find out where surprises lie in the relationship. Pluto for power or power struggles, Jupiter for optimism and joy,  Saturn for stability and responsibility and Mercury for communication issues and so on.

4 – Who Completes Who?

A very important part of any relationship compatibility is to determine whether either partner has something the other partner lacks.

This can be as simple as one partner having lots of planets in water to balance out the other’s partner’s lack of water in their chart. Do you know what the ratio of elements is in your charts? if not, click here

It can also get more involved than that. One partner’s unique aspect pattern can help to complete an unfinished aspect pattern between different planets in the other partner’s chart.

What the astrologer is looking for here is that vital link which signifies that these two people need each other. How they will come to depend upon each other, or in some way complete one another.

Finding this kind of link is an excellent indicator for overall chart compatibility and indeed for relationship longevity.

5 – Mirrored Aspects

Mirrored aspects are fascinating to find between birth charts, and are usually an important factor in relationship compatibility.

For example: his Sun might be conjunct her ascendant in Scorpio. Meanwhile her Sun might be similarly conjunct his ascendant in Gemini.

According to just Sun sign compatibility, this Scorpio-Gemini couple might not be expected to get on all that well.

In this case, we need to take this mirrored aspect into account.

Because the mirrored ascendant links tell a very different story and add a good deal of strength to the relationship. Mirrored aspects between any planet or astrological point combinations tell us a great deal about that partnership and are considered potent karmic or soulful links.
